The Bre-X scandal: the world’s biggest mining fraud and its repercussions.
Presentation Abstract:
The rise and fall of Bre-X – a Calgary-based company who owned allegedly the world’s largest, richest gold deposit, in Indonesia – is, without hyperbole, the biggest mining fraud in history. Yet, no charges were ever laid. The scandal led to numerous regulatory and licensing changes around the world. This talk describes the whole story.
Presenter Bio:
Dave Pattison, B.Sc.
Dave Pattison is a Professor in the Department of Earth, Energy and Environment at the University of Calgary. He obtained his BSc from Queen’s University of Kingston and his PhD from University of Edinburgh. He teaches and researches metamorphic geology, ore deposits and Cordilleran tectonics
