Paul Hawkins passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the age of 64 years. His parents, Gerald and Margaret Olive welcomed Paul into the world in Toronto, Ontario on February 15, 1953. Paul, following in his older brothers steps, David and John, grew up in the Beaches neighborhood in Toronto and their tradition of having a paper route. A diligent saver, he travelled to England and Russia before finishing university. Drawn to nature and the outdoors, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Engineering at Queen’s University.

He moved to Calgary to start his career and worked in Alberta, BC, NWT and the Yukon, running remote exploration programs and immersing himself in the environment he loved the most. Early on he started his own firm, which proudly donned his name, Paul A. Hawkins and Associates. Paul was President of the Calgary Mineral Exploration Group for many years and was always a driving force behind the MEG.

Paul provided care to his mother, Margaret Olive, until her passing. Paul proudly transferred to his surviving nephews and nieces (James, Steven, Mary, Laura, Katy and Ruth) the Hawkins story, genealogy and family traditions. Paul will be fondly remembered for his addiction to Coca-Cola, dry-witty sense of humor, and thrifty means and methods; but most importantly we will always know him for his loyalty to close friends and family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cedars Villa Extendicare and Right at Home for their compassionate care. Gratitude to Melissa and Debbie at Diversified Leisure Services for their dedicated service to enriching Paul’s life these last few years.

Memorial tributes may be made directly to the Hospital for Sick Kids (Toronto) through the SickKids Foundation, 525 University Avenue (14th Floor), Toronto, ON, M5G 2L3.

A Funeral Service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church 3704 – 37 Street SW, Calgary, AB on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
