THE CALGARY MEG IS HOSTING A FULL DAY FIELD TRIP TO THE AMMOLITE QUARRY AT MAGRATH IN THE BEARPAW FORMATION, ALONG SAINT MARY’S RIVER, SOUTHERN ALBERTA.

BARRY RICHARDS, OF THE GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF CANADA, AND RENE TRUDEL, OF KORITE, WILL LEAD THE FIELD TRIP.

Itinerary – Saturday, October 13th, 2018

7:30am: Depart from the Geological Survey of Canada – Calgary (3303 33 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta T2L 2A7), and travel southeast on highways 2 and 3 to the city of Lethbridge. We then drive south on Highway 5 and Township Road 7.0 to Canada Fossil Sales/Korite’s Ammolite quarry on the Saint Mary’s River. At the quarry, we will examine the fossils and deposits, then visit the nearby natural exposures of the Bearpaw Formation. 

3:30 pm: Leave southern Alberta, and return to Calgary via Lethbridge.

6:30 pm: Arrive at the GSC in Calgary

A field lunch, water and snacks will be provided*.
